We are a modern high energy Hard Rock cover band situated in Victoria BC. With covers of bands such as Rage Against the Machine, The Beastie Boys, and Franz Ferdinand our goal is to keep the audience rocking!
And in the role of Lead Singer/Frontman is Karen….because of course it is.
Karen has been melodically screaming into microphones all over Calgary, Alberta and the Bow Valley for the last 20 years, but now calls Vancouver Island home.
Early on, Karen and her dad had a travelling ventriloquist show, playing to churches all over rural Alberta and Karen then went on to sing the lullaby to Jesus in the Christmas play. But she didn’t stop there. Oh no. Not Karen.
Fast forward to a few years later and Karen can be found competing in local talent shows like the Calgary Stampede Youth Talent Show, and the Marlborough Mall Food Court Talent Show and spending all her time singing jazz, showtunes, pop, songs she just made up a second ago, rock, harder rock, even harder rock, and the Amy Grant Christmas album. All that experience culminated into a 5 year career as Calgary’s favorite karaoke host and then launched Karen onto the Calgary cover band scene. Karen fronted House of Eden, Stranger Than Fiction, Lethologica, and 3rd Party Damage in the years that followed.
And now she’s Victoria’s problem.
It turns out that if you collect enough gear eventually the only excuse remaining to buy more is that you "need it for the band". Out of that barely feasible justification was born the spark that became Karen and The Managers.
On stage you will find Rob nestled between the largest amp he could justify transporting and a pedalboard of biblical proportions that can, and will, induce seizures and disrupt pacemakers (only in the first two rows).
Off stage Rob's main activities are Rock Climbing and invalidating the warranty on any piece of technology that crosses his path.
Adam has been the assistant to the assistant general manager for 12 years. He believes Karen is the world’s greatest boss while simultaneously sending daily emails to corporate in order for him to disparage her in order to be promoted to regional manager.
He plays PRS and Gibson guitars with Blackstar amps. He prefers to use a wireless setup because he hates being tied down and is unable to stand still.
Married to a lovely backup singer and have two beautiful kids that are unaware they are adults.
Likes to think he is from Parksville but spent way too much time in Edmonton.
Plays vintage Premier drums as too indecisive to buy a new kit.
Started drumming in a Iron Maiden tribute (air band) at a roller rink in 1984. Won 2nd place, free roller skating.
Been trying to learn drums for the past 38yrs to varying success. Played in various underwhelming projects till finally being good enough to join the Managers under Karen's strong but fair tutelage.
Believes Bigfoot roams the Sooke hills.
Dreams of one day dancing in a Bollywood film
Mike Croy is the bass player/low frequency manager for Karen and the managers and has been playing bass for 30 years. Mike has played with many Victoria local bands in the past such as Black Kronstadt, The Sophisto's, The Reactions, Fast Jacket(former zone band of the month), Yum Yum Bang Bang and The Vic High Rhythm and blues band.
If Mike isn't busy Rawking out he can be found being a master baker at work, riding his bike all over town or obsessing over random weird Craigslist ads, which is how he met Karen and the managers!
Over the past three decades I have been in a variety of bands in different forms. As a teenager I recorded and sang with a jazz blues trio. I started writing songs and coming up with melodies on the piano just for myself for many years. Then I met Terry, the Karen and the Managers drummer, and we fell in love.
We created a band and started to write originals and performed for many years. My most recent work was with a band called Lily, where I was the songwriter, lead singer and rhythm guitarist.
I'm extremely honored to be joining Karen and the Managers as a backup vocalist. This is a great group of musicians with talent and magnificent energy.
